How to Perform Umrah – Simple Steps According to Sunnah
“The reward for an accepted Umrah is nothing but Jannah.”

STEP 1: Make Intention & Enter Ihram
📍 Where? Before reaching the Meeqat (fixed boundary), such as in the airplane or at the airport.
1. Make niyyah (intention) in your heart:
“O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah. Make it easy and accept it from me.”
2. Men wear two white, unstitched cloths (Izar & Rida).
Women wear any modest, loose clothing (no specific color required).
3. Pray 2 rak’ahs of Ihram (optional, Sunnah).
4. Say the Talbiyah aloud:
“Labbayka Allahumma Umrah. Labbayka laa shareeka laka labbayk…”
(“Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah. You have no partner…”)
📖 Based on Hadith: Prophet ﷺ began Talbiyah at Dhul-Hulayfah (Meeqat). – Bukhari & Muslim
STEP 2: Perform Tawaf (7 Circuits Around the Kaaba)
📍 Where? At Masjid al-Haram (Makkah)
1. Enter the Haram with your right foot and say:
“Bismillah, Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad…”
2. Begin Tawaf at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad).
If you can’t touch it, just raise your hand and say:
“Bismillah, Allahu Akbar”
3. Walk 7 rounds (anti-clockwise) around the Kaaba.
• Men: Walk briskly in the first 3 rounds (if space allows).
• Recite any du’as, dhikr, or Quran while walking. No specific du’a is mandatory.
4. Finish at the Black Stone again.

STEP 3: Perform Sa’i (7 Rounds Between Safa & Marwah)
📍 Where? Inside the Masjid near the Kaaba
1. Climb Safa hill, face the Kaaba, and say:
“Indeed, Safa and Marwah are from the symbols of Allah…” (Qur’an 2:158)
Then make du’a and start your walk.
2. Walk towards Marwah, making dhikr and du’a.
3. Between the green lights, men run lightly, women walk normally.
4. Count 1 trip = Safa to Marwah. Do 7 trips total, ending at Marwah.

STEP 4: Shave or Trim Hair (Halq or Qasr)
📍 After Sa’i, exit the Haram to cut hair.
• Men: Shave (Halq) or trim (Qasr) hair. Shaving is more rewarding.
• Women: Trim about one fingertip’s length from their hair.
